ABOUT BIOTECH
BIOTECH , a synonym for
ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY, POWER, ECO-FRIENDLINESS, HYGIENE AND HEALTH, has been
established as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), in 1994, even though its
activities originated long before during the early eighties. BIOTECH has been
registered under the Charitable Societies Registration Act, with its head
quarters functioning at Thiruvananthapuram. BIOTECH is engaged in the
implementation, promotion, popularization and research in Bio-Waste Management,
Non-conventional Energy and Energy Conservation Programmes. BIOTECH has
sufficient sound and experienced technical personnel and infra-structural
facilities to undertake all developmental programmes. A well equipped training
centre has been established in BIOTECH. This centre is capable of rendering
training and awareness to 75 -100 persons at a time.
BIOTECH focuses attention
on research, development and production of renewable energy, especially Bio
Energy Programmes with the active support and co-operation of other government
and non-governmental organizations, especially local bodies.
BIOTECH had received
several awards including International Green Oscar 2007. More than 15 inventions
have been added to the credit of BIOTECH in the field of waste to energy
programmes.
BIOTECH had developed
different models of waste treatment plants, for being used under different
geographical conditions.
BIOTECH does implement
projects suitable for treating bio waste at the domestic level and also in
public institutions like hospitals, hostels, convents, slaughter houses etc.
BIOTECH provides subsidy for the installation of waste to energy projects.
This Organization implements programmes through out the state
in association with Local Self Government Institutions.
BIOTECHrenders consultancy
services for the preparation of projects, takes up feasibility studies, makes
site visits and carries out project implementation and awareness programmes.
ENERGY CONSERVATION AWARD
In consideration of the stupendous efforts made by BIOTECH to propagate energy
conservation devices and energy generation programmes through Non-conventional
Energy Sources and Waste Management system, Kerala State Energy Management
Centre, honored BIOTECH four times with the ‘Energy Conservation Award’ as the
best NGO for the years 1999, 2002, 2003 and again for 2007.
ENERGY CLUBS For the
effective implementation of Non-conventional energy schemes, waste management
and energy conservation programmes, BIOTECH has decided to organise Energy Clubs
in both rural and urban areas, with the association of local NGOs, who are
actively involved in the development programmes. BIOTECH provides proper
training and renders awareness among the members of Energy Clubs. Under this
programme BIOTECH had organised 26 Energy Clubs in various places. All these
clubs do actively co-operate with BIOTECH in the implementation of the
programmes.
AWARENESS PROGRAMMES
For the effective implementation of each programme, proper awareness is an
essential prerequisite. For creating awareness in an effective manner, audio and
video media dully supported by the documentaries produced by BIOTECH on
different subjects are being adopted. BIOTECH conducts awareness programmes in
different places in association with Energy Clubs and other Governmental and
Non-Governmental Organisations. This regular awareness programmes help to foster
our activities.
VIDEO DOCUMENTARIES
Realising the efficacy of video messages to produce spontaneous reaction and
understanding among the public, BIOTECH initiated and produced Video
Documentaries on different subjects related to Waste Management, Energy
conservation, Non-Conventional Energy Programmes, Bio Manure production etc.
MUSEUM To create
awareness about non-conventional energy programmes and conservation of energy to
the general public BIOTECH has started a permanent museum in the Head office
premises. A number of energy saving devices and non-conventional energy
equipments has been exhibited in the museum. This museum is a source of
attraction to the general public.
EXHIBITIONS Naturally,
exhibitions create direct impact on the participants. BIOTECH could arrange
exhibitions of various devices on energy conservation, Bio Gas plants, Smokeless
Chulhas in public places, schools, colleges etc
WOMEN EDUCATION PROGRAMMES
Women are thWomen are the real users of cooking fuels. If they are properly
educated and an awareness is created among them for the beneficial use of
biogas, smokeless chulhas, energy saving devices etc., there will be
considerable reduction in the consumption of fuel. |
